This award is designed to honor outstanding alumni enrolled in an Arts Schools Network school. She traveled to New York to be presented the award at the ASN Conference and also hosted a second CD release at New York’s famed jazz spot, “The Triad”.
Known in the jazz world as Kim Scott, she released her debut album of jazz music for flute on the Lenoah Records label in 2011 entitled “Crossing Over”, which was produced by the label’s CEO, Keith “Cashmere” Williams and received high acclaim. She released her sophomore CD, “Rite of Passage” May of 2013. The debut singles, “Golden”, “Block Party” and “Sweet Obsession”, were the #1 most played and most added songs the day of their national release. Singles from the album “Rite of Passage” were in the top 15 on all the national smooth jazz charts including the Billboards, Radiowave and Smoothjazz.com. In July of 2014, Kim Scott’s “Block Party Radio Show” hit the airwaves on jazz radio stations across the globe. It is currently on national and international radio and internet stations in Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, New York, Los Angeles, CA. and Melbourne, Australia to name a few. In 2015, she signed with Innervision Records Label out of Los Angeles, California. Perfectly in line with the title of her explosive and eclectic 3rd CD entitled “Southern Heat” debuting on Innervision Records, Kim Scott’s latest hit, the edgy, brass and funk fired “Sizzle” – featuring the dynamic trumpet of co-writer Lin Rountree – has become a self-fulfilling prophecy, as the lead single from “Southern Heat” was also a Top 15 hit on the National Smooth Jazz Airplay Charts.
My philosophy is to share my love of Music and the skills I’ve developed with the next generation of young musicians. By engaging them in the classroom and outside the classroom via performances, clinics, and festivals, I want to strengthen their technical abilities on their instruments, build their comprehensive knowledge of music, and prepare them to go beyond ASFA in the field of music or the field of their choice. As a pedagogue, I feel it is my obligation to give the highest quality of instruction to every student that graces my music department and studio.
